In 1824 the pub was known as "The Hanging Gate" probalby in reference to the toll gate on the Bentley Road. In 1952 Sir William Dugdale rode his horse Cloncarrig in the Grand National and this was depicted in a painting on the front of the pub. It was said that the picture was covered over by the picture of an anonymous horse and jockey that we see today.
The Pub offers an extensive beer garden (a real sun-trap) where customers can enjoy a pint of Real Ale whilst the garden offers an outdoor play area with pet chickens, goats (Coco and Fudge) and rabbits to amuse the children. The pub boasts a beautiful 18th century barn conversion restruant with original beams and exposed brickwork that is available to hire for weddings and private parties, the building was awarded with a Civil Award by North Warickshire Borough Council, an extensive menu is offered six days-a-week serving tradional home cooked food and that all essential Sunday Roast.
We are also a certified Camping & Caracanning Club Site with electric hook up and hard standing area. The field can also be used for Caravan Rallies, please ask staff for more information.
The pub also has a skittles room and Skittles parties can be booked for £6.95 per person including choice of meal. Any local skittles team wishing to make use of this facility please contact George or Julie.
Muddy boots and well behaved dogs welcome in the bar. In winter and on some cooler summer nights you will always find a roaring open fire and a warm welcome.
